Drew Pomeranz Likely To Be Limited In Spring Training
2 years agoSan Diego Padres manager Bob Melvin said that relief pitcher Drew Pomeranz (elbow) will likely be limited for the start of spring training. It shouldn't come as much of a surprise after Pomeranz didn't pitch at all in 2022 after having flexor tendon surgery in 2021. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw has only thrown 44 1/3 innings in relief in the last three years, but he's been very effective when healthy, sporting a 1.62 ERA (2.75 FIP), 1.08 WHIP, four saves and 59 strikeouts in that span in 47 relief appearances. Barring a setback this spring, Pomeranz should be part of the team's Opening Day bullpen, where he'll hold a high-leverage setup role alongside Luis Garcia and Robert Suarez.
