Dominic Leone Suddenly the Front-Runner for Saves in St. Louis
7 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Dominic Leone seems to have suddenly become the favorite for saves in the Cardinals bullpen. General manager John Mozeliak said that if the season were to begin Wednesday, the team's closer "would probably be Dominic Leone." The begin today part is key because Luke Gregerson, who has been considered the favorite since camp opened, has been dealing with an oblique injury. If he recovers without setbacks, he may ultimately end up the closer as expected. Mozeliak's comment, however, at least confirms that Leone is at worst the next guy up, ahead of Tyler Lyons. Leone can be drafted in holds leagues, but standard league players may want to take a more wait-and-see approach with the Cardinals bullpen as a whole.
