DJ LeMahieu To Be Shut Down For A Week
11 months agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (foot), who was pulled from a minor-league rehab game early on Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, still has swelling in his injured right foot. He will be shut down from baseball activities for the next seven days and then be re-evaluated. LeMahieu was set to play fewer than five rehab games in the minors before being activated from the injured list for his 2024 debut with the Yankees, but that's not going to happen now. The 35-year-old veteran is struggling to return from a fractured right foot and will now need to rest some more before trying to restart his rehab assignment. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect to see LeMahieu now until around mid-May. Oswaldo Cabrera has benefitted from a regular role at third base in the Bronx as a result and was hitting .278 (20-for-72) with three homers, 14 RBI and 11 runs heading into Wednesday's contest.

DJ LeMahieu To Undergo An MRI On Tuesday
2 weeks agoNew York Yankees third baseman DJ LeMahieu (calf) is set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. LeMahieu sustained this calf injury during Saturday's Grapefruit League contest. Over the weekend, LeMahieu said that he will likely be out for "a little bit." Fantasy managers should monitor his status after the MRI as it will likely provide clarity on his status. Currently, LeMahieu is slated to be the team's primary third baseman. Last season, the 36-year-old posted a .204/.265/.259 slash line across 67 contests. He only went deep twice but showed a strong eye at the plate as he struck out at a strong 15.4 percent rate. During the 2023 season, LeMahieu held a .243/.327/.390 line across 136 contests. If LeMahieu were to miss time early in the season, Oswaldo Cabrera or Oswald Peraza would be candidates to move up the depth chart.

DJ LeMahieu Sustains Calf Injury
2 weeks agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu (calf) suffered a calf injury during Saturday's spring training contest. LeMahieu tweaked a calf muscle during his second at-bat of the afternoon. After the game, manager Aaron Boone noted that the injury is "a little concerning." Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status, but seeing that the team is concerned could suggest he may be sidelined for a period of time. Last season, the 36-year-old appeared in just 67 contests and held a career-worst .204/.269/.259 slash line. He tallied just two long balls and five doubles. He generated a modest 37.6 percent hard-hit rate but showed a strong eye at the plate, striking out at a 15.6 percent rate. While he is sidelined, Oswaldo Cabrera and Oswald Peraza will likely see an increase in playing time at the hot corner.

DJ LeMahieu To Make Spring Debut Soon
2 weeks agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu could make his Grapefruit League debut either on Saturday or Monday, according to the New York Post's Greg Joyce. LeMahieu dealt with foot and hip injuries a year ago that limited him to 67 games, but he entered spring training fully healthy and ready to compete for the team's starting third base job. The Yankees have been looking to limit his workload this spring to make sure that he's fully healthy for Opening Day, but it looks like he'll begin playing in games soon. The three-time All-Star's skills have eroded offensively in the last few years, and he hit just .204/.269/.259 with two home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored in his 228 plate appearances in 2024. But for lack of better options, LeMahieu is viewed as the favorite for most of the playing time at the hot corner in the Bronx, at least early in the season. At 36 years old, fantasy managers shouldn't be banking on a big bounce-back.

DJ LeMahieu Reset In The Offseason
4 weeks agoNew York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu said that he took two months off from hitting in the offseason to give himself a "reset" after the worst year of his career in 2024. The three-time All-Star played in only 67 games for the Yanks last year and hit a disappointing .204/.269/.259 with only two home runs, 26 RBI and 19 runs scored in 228 plate appearances. The 36-year-old veteran dealt with a fractured foot and a hip injury, which likely played a big part in his frustrating season. However, it's fair at this point to wonder how much LeMahieu has left in the tank, even if he's fully healthy. The good news for his fantasy appeal in deep-mixed and AL-only affairs in 2025 is that he's the likely favorite for primary duties at third base to begin the year in the Bronx. LeMahieu is eligible at both third and first base, but his skills at the plate have declined enough that most fantasy managers will ignore him entirely.
