DJ Herz Called Up To Make Big-League Debut
6 months agoThe Washington Nationals announced on Tuesday that they recalled left-handed pitching prospect DJ Herz from Triple-A Rochester to replace right-hander Trevor Williams (forearm), who was placed on the 15-day injured list. Herz will make the start on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets in Williams' place and could stick around for another turn or two through the rotation if he performs well. The 23-year-old southpaw gets his first big-league call-up after posting a 3.75 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 29 walks in 36 innings for Rochester. Washington's No. 12 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, lives on his fastball-changeup combination. Herz comes with a career strikeout rate over 30% in the minors, but his lack of command is worrisome for fantasy managers in deeper leagues looking for a under-the-radar streamer on Tuesday.
