Didi Gregorius Enjoys Monster Home Opener
7 years agoWith the weather somewhat giving in, the New York Yankees played their home opener against the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium. The star of the afternoon was undoubtedly shortstop Didi Gregorius, who almost single-handedly carried the club to victory. The 28-year-old batted cleanup and picked up four hits in four plate appearances, also walking once. In the bottom of the third with the score tied, he delivered a three-run home run, giving the Yankees the lead for the second time. In the seventh inning with the scored tied once again, he delivered on yet another three-run bomb, this one putting the Yankees ahead for good. Finally in the eighth, he drove in two more runs with a single, completing his eight-RBI day, the most runs ever driven in by a Yankee shortstop.
