Diamondbacks Acquiring Paul Sewald From Mariners
1 year agoThe Arizona Diamondbacks are finalizing a deal on Monday to acquire closer Paul Sewald from the Seattle Mariners, according to sources. The Diamondbacks are sending infielder Josh Rojas, outfielder/first baseman Dominic Canzone and infielder Ryan Bliss to the Mariners in return. Sewald will head to the National League West and should become Arizona's primary closing option after posting a strong 2.93 ERA (2.98 FIP), 1.02 WHIP, a career-high 21 saves, 14 walks and 60 strikeouts in 43 relief innings for the M's this year. With Sewald no longer in Seattle, Andres Munoz figures to be the primary beneficiary for save chances, although Justin Topa could also factor into the equation in the ninth for the rest of the season.
