Much to the delight of the Detroit Red Wings management, Filip Zadina was still on the board for their first-round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Zadina, at 6-foot and 197 pounds, is an elite scoring winger with good size. It was rumored that the Red Wings would select from the top defensemen with their pick at sixth overall, but the Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Arizona Coyotes reached for positional needs, allowing Detroit to nab the third-ranked North American skater. In 57 games with the Halifax Mooseheads this season, Zadina sniped 44 goals and added 38 assists for 82 points. In nine postseason games, Zadina tacked on five goals and 12 points. Zadina has the size and maturity to step right into the NHL and will be given every opportunity to prove it this September, but he is of course still of age to return to the QMJHL. Expect him to have a roster spot in 2019-20.--Kevin AcornRead More News
