6 years agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Detrez Newsome knew he'd be the man coming into the game against Seattle, and he took advantage of the opportunity. Newsome was one of just two running backs who were active for the game, and the other was starter Melvin Gordon, so he was pretty much guaranteed the bulk of the carries. He finished with 19 carries for 78 yards, averaging 4.1 YPC. Newsome is playing for the third-string spot, and unless someone absolutely destroys at camp this week, it looks like it's probably his gig. With the running back position so volatile and prone to injury, Newsome could see some real deal playing time if the injury bug shows up in LA's backfield.--Billy Stonick - RotoBaller
