Derrius Guice Expected To Be Early-Down Back
7 years agoBecause of some questions as to whether Washington Redskins rookie Derrius Guice can be adequate in pass protection, he is expected to mainly serve as the lead back on first and second downs, according to head coach Jay Gruden. Guice didn't see a lot of work in the passing game in college, but he's willing to block and learn to improve. “He's more of a first-, second-down banger. But I've seen him at his pro day catch the football. He can catch the football fine, but really, our role for him is quite easy to see. It’s first, second down," Gruden said. With Chris Thompson locked in as the pass-catching third-down back, Guice won't be used much in the passing game. At least for 2018, that'll limit his fantasy ceiling in his rookie season.
