It wasn't meant to be for Derrick Lewis on his home turf, as he lost out on the UFC interim heavyweight title by way of third-round TKO to Ciryl Gane on Saturday. After winning four fights in a row, Lewis earned a shot to compete for the interim title against the French sensation in Houston at UFC 265's main event. Lewis was unable to get in close on Gane, who did a great job with his kicks to keep Lewis at bay. Even when Lewis picked up the pace and aggression, he still could not land the knockout shot to win the contest. Lewis is still always a potential threat to end anyone's night with a big strike. The striking just was not there on Saturday, though, with 16 significant strikes through 13:48 minutes of total action.--Matt Bricker

Derrick Lewis scored a third-round knockout win over Rodrigo Nascimento in the main event of UFC St. Louis on Saturday. Lewis entered the fight as the betting favorite and right away, it appeared he had rocked Nascimento. However, Lewis was controlled for 2:37 of the first round and was controlled for over two minutes in the second round. As it looked like the fight was getting away from him, Lewis landed a massive overhand right that dropped Nascimento, and he finished him off via ground and pound 49 seconds into the third round. With the win, Lewis is now 28-12 and 1 No Contest and is 19-10 in the UFC.--Cole Shelton

Derrick Lewis (27-12, one no-contest) is set to headline UFC St. Louis against Rodrigo Nascimento on Saturday. Lewis is coming off a lackluster decision loss to Jailton Almeida back in November and is 1-4 in his last five fights. Despite the struggles, Lewis is the favorite, as DraftKings has him at a salary of $8,400. In the UFC, Lewis is 18-10, with 14 wins by knockout, while he has been finished in nine of his 10 losses. A win over Nascimento should get Lewis a top-10 opponent as he looks to remain a title contender.--Cole Shelton

Derrick Lewis is now 1-4 in his last five fights as he lost a lopsided decision to Jailton Almeida in the main event of UFC Sao Paulo on Saturday. Lewis took this fight on a month's notice but he had nothing for Almeida. 'The Black Beast' was taken down six times and was controlled for over 21 minutes out of the 25-minute fight as he lost every single round on all three judges' scorecards. Lewis also landed just 28 total strikes in the loss. --Cole Shelton

Jailton Almeida improved to 20-2 as a pro and 6-0 in the UFC with a one-sided decision win over Derrick Lewis at UFC Sao Paulo. Almeida went 6-of-15 on takedowns in the fight, but when he did get Lewis down, he was able to keep him there. The Brazilian finished the fight with 21:10 of control time in the 25-minute fight. Almeida also outstruck Lewis 120-to-28 as he won every single round on all three judges' scorecards. It wasn't the most exciting fight, but with the win, Almeida could very well get a top-five opponent next time out.--Cole Shelton
