Deni Avdija Sinks Five Treys En Route To 20 Points
4 years agoWashington Wizards small forward Deni Avdija had the best game of his young career on Saturday, shooting 5-for-9 from downtown and picking up 20 points in a 128-124 loss to Miami. He shot 7-for-15 overall from the field, adding five rebounds, five assists, and two steals with zero turnovers in 32 minutes. Both Russell Westbrook (rest) and Bradley Beal (health protocols) were ruled out pre-game, and Washington lost Thomas Bryant (knee) right at the start to injury, so all the Wizards players had a chance to eat and Avdija finished as the highest-scoring starter. Rui Hachimura came just behind him with 17 points, while Garrison Mathews led the whole team with 22 points. Avdija was held pointless by the Celtics on Friday and he had managed four points in total across three games, so this must have felt really good for him. He'll try and keep it up on Monday against Phoenix, though getting enough touches will be problematic if Westbrook and Beal return.
