Dellin Betances Strikes Out The Side In Mets Win
4 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Dellin Betances pitched a scoreless seventh inning striking out the side in the Mets 11-6 win over the Nationals on Wednesday. It was his third scoreless appearance in a row after being tagged for four earned runs in 1/3 inning of work against the Braves back on July 31. Notwithstanding the performance, it is noteworthy that his velocity is still not getting beyond 95 mph. During spring training and summer camp, Betances was having velocity issues and had not reached the velocity he exhibited when he was a lockdown reliever for the Yankees. While Betances has recently proven that he can get outs without his top velocity intact, he still remains a volatile option out of the Mets bullpen. Fantasy owners should note that he is unlikely to see save opportunities in the near future with Seth Lugo and Edwin Diaz ahead of him in the pecking order. That said, he does have some value in leagues that reward holds. On the season, Betances has posted a 6.75 ERA, 1.50 WHIP while striking out six and walking three in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
