Delino DeShields Jr. Called Up By Reds
3 years agoThe Cincinnati Reds selected the contract of outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. on Wednesday. DeShields was acquired in a trade with the Boston Red Sox just a day earlier, on Tuesday, in exchange for cash considerations. The news is particularly notable as DeShields' father, Delino DeShields Sr., is the first base coach for the Reds. Delino Jr. began the year in the Texas Rangers' organization and he has spent the majority of the season at Triple-A, where he has slashed .252/.385/.366 with six home runs, 21 stolen bases and 56 runs over 84 games. He appeared in both games of the Reds' doubleheader on Wednesday, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. The Reds have a crowded outfield right now, so don't expect DeShields to get more than a few starts per week while he's with the team.
