Deivi Garcia To Start In Weekend Series Against Tigers
3 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Deivi Garcia is scheduled to pitch one of the games in this weekend's upcoming series against the Detroit Tigers. Garcia was initially slated to pitch this weekend anyway, though his presence will be even more welcome with the news that Corey Kluber is expected to be sidelined for at least eight weeks. The 22-year-old made a spot start in the Bronx earlier this year and allowed three walks and two runs over four innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles. He has since pitched at the Triple-A level, where he recorded a 5.17 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings. There's no doubt that Garcia possesses strikeout upside at the big league level, thanks to an excellent slider and curveball. He'll need to work on exhibiting better control, as he's averaged 4.0 walks per nine innings in five minor league seasons. He's worth a pickup in leagues for those who need starting pitching help.
