Davis Thompson Returns To Action For Shriners Children’s Open
6 months agoDavis Thompson returns to action this week at the Shriners Children's Open at TPC Summerlin, marking his first appearance since August. In the 2024 regular season FedEx Cup standings, Thompson finished 34th. This will be his second appearance at the Shriners Children's Open, having finished T35 last year. It's worth noting that over 34% of approach shots at last year's Shriners Children's Open came from 100-150 yards. Over the past 12 months, Thompson ranks in the 68th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from this distance in the fairway. With an outstanding 2024 season and a history of strong performances at TPC Summerlin, Thompson is an appealing option for DFS lineups this week.

Davis Thompson Continues Playing Well Heading To Cognizant Classic
2 months agoDavis Thompson finished T13 at the Genesis Invitational two weeks ago and is now focusing on preparing for this week's Cognizant Classic, which is being held at PGA National Resort. Last year, Thompson finished T47. Over the past 12 months, he has ranked in the 54th percentile for proximity to the hole on approach shots from 150 to 200 yards in the fairway. This is significant because over 44% of the approach shots at last year's Cognizant Classic came from this distance. Thompson has only missed one cut in 2025, making him a solid addition to DFS lineups this week.

Davis Thompson Is Riding The Struggle Bus To Scottsdale
2 months agoThrough the early stages of 2025, the elite iron play that accompanied Davis Thompson's sophomore season last year has not been present. The 25-year-old has yet to gain strokes on approach through the first four starts at an average of -0.685. Every other metric is somewhat positive, but that still hasn't translated to a finish he should be satisfied with. He'll be making his third career start at the WM Phoenix Open with mixed results in the first two (T15 and a missed cut), but given the approach woes, he'll be difficult to trust without that part of his game coming back around. He is still a masterful driver of the golf ball, and his approach numbers between 50-125 yards (15'2") is ranked 26th on the PGA Tour. However, buyers of Thompson this week should be informed of the risks currently associated with him.

Davis Thompson Treading Water Heading Into Pebble Beach
3 months agoDavis Thompson has not gotten off to the best start in 2025. The American golfer has no Top 25 results and missed a cut to boot. At The American Express, Thompson started off well enough but a 71 in the final round knocked him outside the Top 50. One bit of good news is that the golfer does not have to fire in birdies like last year's John Deere Classic (where he won). The average winning score is typically around 270 since 2016. For the most part, Thompson is an average putter but can get hot (see again John Deere Classic). The problem is the golfer cannot get to the green often enough in 2025. He has lost -0.603 strokes on approach (155th on tour). In 2024, Thompson was 38th at 0.306 gained.

Slow Starts Plaguing Davis Thompson Early In 2025
3 months agoThe first two events of 2025 have seen Davis Thompson begin slowly. The American golfer blew up at The Sentry with a 78 before bouncing back. Last week at the Sony Open, Thompson started with a 70 and 69. As a result, he missed the cut. Thompson had a three week run where he netted a Top 10 at the US Open, nearly won the Rocket Mortgage then won the John Deere Classic. He vaulted into the Top 50 in the World Rankings. Thompson did have trouble at times overall but when he puts the putting and strokes together, look out. He is a golfer that can shoot in the lower 60's even at La Quinta potentially. Again, if Thompson gets hot early, he is a bet to potentially contend.
