David Robertson Gets Into And Out Of Massive Jam In Win
7 years agoIn the eighth inning of Thursday’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees held a 4-2 lead and sent reliever David Robertson to the mound. The usually steady 33-year-old ran into a world of trouble, as he allowed a leadoff hit and an ensuing pair of walks, loading the bases with no outs. Given his track record of escaping major jams, however, the Yankees probably felt most comfortable with Robertson on the mound and their faith in him paid off. After striking out the next batter, he gave up a bloop single, scoring one run and cutting the lead to one. Then, however, he struck out the next batter and induced a fly out to escape with the lead intact.
