David Peterson Possibly Returning To Rotation
4 years agoNew York Mets manager Luis Rojas indicated that there is a "strong possibility" that left-handed pitcher David Peterson will return to the rotation to face the Orioles on Monday or Tuesday. Peterson last threw four solid innings in relief in the Mets' 9-4 win over the Orioles on Wednesday. In that appearance, Peterson allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out one batter over his four innings of work. Peterson (4-1) now boasts a 3.03 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts in 29 2/3 inning pitched on the season. It makes little sense for the Mets to place Peterson, arguably the Mets' second-best starting pitcher in 2020, into the bullpen permanently given the lack of rotational depth and ineffectiveness of Michael Wacha and Rick Porcello. As such, it is likely the Mets will return Peterson to the rotation. This will certainly give Peterson's fantasy value a boost. Managers in need of starting pitching should monitor the situation should the Mets come to their senses and deploy Peterson to start against Baltimore.
