David Peterson Closes Out Rookie Season In Style
4 years agoNew York Mets left-handed pitcher David Peterson picked up his sixth win of the season in the Mets' 3-2 victory over the Nationals on Thursday. Peterson closed out his rookie campaign with an impressive seven inning outing allowing just four hits, one earned run, and one walk while striking out four. Peterson (6-2) finishes 2020 with a solid 3.44 ERA, a 1.21 WHIP, a 1.4 WAR, and 40 strikeouts in 49 2/3 innings pitched. Peterson will likely be a central part of the Mets' 2021 rotation slotting into the rotation as a SP 4/5 after Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard, and any potential free agent signing. Peterson will hopefully build off of what was a great rookie season in 2021, though he does need to get his walks under control to achieve continued success in the majors (he yielded 24 walks in his 49 2/3 innings pitched this year). Peterson should be a solid later round SP 4/5 option in mixed league formats heading into 2021 drafts who can help with ratios, wins, and strikeouts.
