David Montgomery Has Real Upside In Season-Opener
1 year agoDetroit Lions running back David Montgomery joined the team on a three-year, $18 million contract this offseason. His deal was lucrative compared to the dried-up running back market, so he should see plenty of usage right away in Detroit. While Jahmyr Gibbs will likely have a lock on the receiving back role, Montgomery is expected to assume last year's Jamaal Williams role as the goal line sledgehammer. In what should be a high-scoring contest against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1, he has real touchdown upside. It looks like Kansas City will be without Chris Jones (holdout), meaning Montgomery's path to wide-open running lanes behind one of the league's best offensive lines becomes even easier.
