David Bednar Looks Sharp Again Sunday Against Orioles
4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates relief pitcher David Bednar recorded his third straight scoreless appearance on Sunday afternoon, allowing one walk while striking out two in one inning of work. A two-out walk marked the first baserunner Bednar has allowed all spring, as he has now struck out seven over three innings of work. Bednar was one of the players acquired by Pittsburgh in the Joe Musgrove trade in January, and appears to be well on his way to locking down a spot in the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen. With speculation swirling about Richard Rodriguez as a potential trade candidate, it's possible that Bednar could get a shot at the closer's role at some point this season. At the very least he's making a strong case for being rostered in saves-plus-holds formats.
