Dauri Moreta Making Good Progress
1 day agoPittsburgh Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said that right-handed reliever Dauri Moreta (elbow) is in the "side" portion of his rehab from Tommy John surgery. Moreta is making good progress but still is unlikely to pitch in any Grapefruit League games in spring training. Meanwhile, fellow pitchers Sean Sullivan and Yerry Rodriguez are dealing with right-elbow discomfort in camp. Sullivan is playing catch but won't pitch in any spring games, while Rodriguez is seeking a second opinion. The 28-year-old Moreta had TJ surgery last March and was placed on the 60-day injured list last weekend, which means he won't be able to make his 2025 debut until at least late May. Moreta had displayed a strong 31.8 percent strikeout rate in 2023 and could be an option for high-leverage spots in Pittsburgh's bullpen down the road in 2025.
