3 years agoArizona Diamondbacks outfielder/catcher Daulton Varsho is serving as the team's leadoff hitter on Opening Day against right-hander Yu Darvish and the San Diego Padres. Varsho is starting in center field for the game. This is an ideal scenario for Varsho from a fantasy perspective. The 25-year-old is catcher-eligible in fantasy leagues, but should be seeing most of his time in center field this year with Carson Kelly as the team's primary catcher and Jose Herrera as Kelly's main backup. Varsho has struggled over his 132 major league games the past two years, slashing just .231/.310/.418. However, he showed 20-20 potential in the minors as well as excellent plate discipline. If he can adjust to big league pitching and remain the team's leadoff hitter for the year, he's going to be a fantasy gem almost by default.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
