Darwinzon Hernandez To Start At Triple-A
3 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that left-hander Darwinzon Hernandez will start the season at Triple-A Worcester and will make the Opening Day start in Jacksonville. The 25-year-old was hoping to open the season in Boston's bullpen as a long man, but he'll instead stay stretched out in the minors and work on his control. The Venezuelan southpaw has shown plenty of strikeout intrigue with 124 K's in 78 2/3 innings over his first three MLB seasons, but he's also walked 65 batters and must refine his control before the Red Sox can trust him back in the majors. In 48 relief outings last year, Hernandez had a 3.38 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with a 29.7% strikeout rate and a way-too-high 17.0% walk rate.
