2 years agoThe Boston Red Sox designated left-hander Darwinzon Hernandez for assignment on Friday in order to make room on the 40-man roster for veteran third baseman Justin Turner. In his fourth big-league season in 2022, Hernandez disappointed and only pitched in 6 2/3 innings in the majors for Boston. He allowed 17 runs (16 earned) on 14 hits while walking eight and striking out nine. The 26-year-old southpaw was much better in 2021, when he had a 3.38 ERA (4.80 FIP), 1.50 WHIP and 29.7 percent strikeout rate, so perhaps he can bounce back in 2023 with a change of scenery. If Hernandez goes unclaimed on waivers, he'll be able to sign with any MLB team on the open market.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
