Darwinzon Hernandez Could Be A Starter
5 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Ron Roenicke said that pitcher Darwinzon Hernandez is a relief pitcher right now, but the coaching staff discussed the idea of him starting again at some point. The 23-year-old left-hander made his MLB debut in 2019 by making one start and 28 relief appearances. He posted a 4.45 ERA and 1.75 WHIP while striking out 57 hitters and walking 26 in his 30 1/3 innings. Hernandez will obviously need to improve his command if he's to have success in the big leagues over a full season, especially as a starter, but there is clear upside in his arm. With David Price now in LA, there could be an opening for Hernandez in the rotation, but he might serve as more of a swing man until further notice. Hernandez is more of a dynasty stash than a redraft target.
