Danny Salazar to Start the Season on the Disabled List
7 years agoCleveland Indians starting pitcher Danny Salazar will start the season on the disabled list due to a shoulder injury. Cleveland manager Terry Francona said Salazar "is not going to be ready" for the regular season. Salazar has been dealing with inflammation in his right (throwing) rotator cuff since the beginning of camp. He's been able to long toss and should be ready to throw off a mound within a week, but he'll still need to build up his arm strength and endurance and won't have enough time to do so before Opening Day. Assuming nothing goes wrong in his recovery, he shouldn't need to stay on the DL for too long once the season begins. Salazar is worth owning in most formats because of his strikeout upside, but he's been inconsistent and injured often, making him a risky fantasy pick.
