7 years agoWashington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy (knee) is starting the season on the disabled list, as he is still recovering from microfracture surgery on his right knee. The team is "almost at that point" of declaring so, according to general manager Mike Rizzo. Murphy has yet to take grounders that aren't hit directly at him, run the bases or face any real pitching, so there's nothing to indicate that he's ready for MLB action. The surgery happened right after the end of the regular season and the team is being cautious due to his history of leg and back problems. Murphy, when healthy, is a top-five fantasy stud at the plate. But he, along with Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano, are showing their age. The second basemen ranked behind those guys (Chris Taylor, Ian Happ and Ozzie Albies) are younger, healthier and on the upswing. Drafting them before Murphy isn't such a crazy idea, but owners who see Murphy fall too far in drafts should also take advantage.--Mario Hernandez - RotoBaller
