Daniel Murphy To Start Season On DL
7 years agoWashington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy (knee), as expected, will start the season on the 10-day disabled list. He is slowly recovering from microfracture surgery in the offseason. For whatever reason, the Nationals declined to announce this ahead of time, but given the fact that he didn't play games or practice lateral fielding, the move surprises no one. Both Howie Kendrick and Wilmer Difo will start in Murphy's place, with Kendrick likely starting more often. He makes a great pickup in leagues of 12 teams or more given his multi-position flexibility. Murphy is playing in the last year of his contract and his value will only go down from here. Owners should hold until right before his return when they can unload him to players looking for a mid-season boost.
