Daniel Murphy To Begin Hitting In Florida
7 years agoWashington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy (knee) will head to Florida on Monday for extended spring training. He will start to swing the bat in some games, which is step up from the mere batting practice he had been taking. Manager Dave Martinez cautioned, however, that the club is not in a rush to bring him back from the offseason microfracture surgery he had on his knee. The time down there will be spent giving Murphy a full spring training. Murphy presents a true test for fantasy owners. On one hand, he is an aging hitter who is prone to injuries. On the other hand, his hit tool should not affected too much by age, he is in the final year of his contract and he is in one of the most potent fantasy lineups in the majors. It is still early in the season and, even if it is not for another month, Murphy could still return significant value in 2018. However, selling high as soon as he gets on a hot streak might be the best move long-term.
