Daniel Murphy Gets To An Ace Sunday
6 years agoChicago Cubs second baseman Daniel Murphy continued to impress Sunday versus the Phillies. With the game tied at 0-0, Murphy was behind in the count to a Cy Young hopeful Aaron Nola who threw a high inside fastball. Somehow, Murphy got up there quick enough to get solid wood on the ball and drive it into the stands. The blast broke the ice and ultimately the Cubs pulled away to win 8-1. The final score does not display how tough Nola was or even how cool it was to see someone get to that pitch without just popping it up. Murphy left the game later for defensive reasons but do not worry as the Cubs want him in the game for the bulk of the innings. The defensive replacements and occasional day-off to make sure everyone stays in rhythm merely takes the edge off his value, not seriously gut it.
