Daniel Berger Struggles Sunday, Finishes Sixth in U.S. Open
6 years agoDaniel Berger entered this week's U.S. Open struggling with his game. The young American missed the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic last week, a tournament where he was the two-time defending champion. Berger must have utilized the time off well, as he looked extremely sharp at Shinnecock Hills this week. After a third round 66 put him into a tie for the lead at 3-over par, Berger was unable to capitalize on his major opportunity Sunday. After two early bogeys dropped him down the leaderboard, Berger spent most of his final round fighting to get back to even par for the day. The young star wasn't able to muster any type of back nine rally and finished the day with a 3-over par 73. At six-over par for the tournament, Berger slid into a tie for sixth place. Despite his struggles Sunday, Berger played his best golf of the season this week. He will be a player to keep an eye on for the rest of the year.
