Daniel Bard Struggles In Non-Save Situation
4 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander Daniel Bard allowed one run on a pair of hits with a walk and a strikeout in the Rockies 4-2 loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday. Bard entered the game in the eighth inning with the Rockies trailing 3-2. He served up a solo home run to second baseman Zach McKinstry to start the inning, which was the first run he's allowed this year. He also allowed a double and a walk in the frame. Bard hadn't appeared in a game since April 8 so manager Bud Black wanted to get him some work with the score so close. He was predictably a little rusty and closers tend to struggle in non-save situations. He still owns a 1.93 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and 7:3 K/BB ratio on the season (4 2/3 innings) but isn't getting many save chances for the last place Rockies.
