Daniel Bard Still Rockies Closer After Rough Outing Sunday
4 years agoColorado Rockies manager Bud Black said that he was not contemplating removing Daniel Bard from the closer role after a rough appearance on Sunday, according to Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post. Bard dropped to 1-2 on the year yesterday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk while recording just one out in an 8-4 loss to the Diamondbacks. Bard is 2-for-4 in save opportunities this season, with his last save coming on April 8. He now has a 9.00 ERA with 11 strikeouts in nine innings of work, and his Statcast numbers don't convey much confidence as he also has a 7.55 xERA while his .340 xBA is the 10th-worst mark among qualified pitchers. Bard is probably the worst closer in fantasy at the moment, and managers should avoid him unless they are desperate for the chance of getting saves.
