Daniel Bard Earns Third Save In Close Call On Wednesday
4 years agoColorado Rockies right-hander Daniel Bard earned his third save of the season on Wednesday when he allowed one run (unearned) on two walks with two strikeouts over one inning in a 6-5 win over the Giants. Bard entered in the top of the ninth inning to preserve a two-run Rockies' lead. He promptly walked Brandon Crawford and Wilmer Flores before whiffing Curt Casali and Steven Duggar. The Giants then attempted a double steal and a Dom Nunez throwing error allowed Crawford to score. Bard then got Darin Ruf to ground out to end the game but it was a nail-biting affair. The 35-year-old is now 3-of-5 on save attempts this season but is sporting a horrible 8.10 ERA, 2.30 WHIP, and 13:7 K/BB ratio to go along with that. He still appears to be the ninth-inning man for now but there's no margin for error moving forward. Mychal Givens and Carlos Estevez would most likely be next in line for save chances if Bard were to lose his gig.
