Cubs To Call Up Shane Greene
1 year agoThe Chicago Cubs are promoting veteran right-hander Shane Greene when rosters expand on Friday. The 34-year-old has been starting at Triple-A Iowa, according to sources, but he hasn't started a major-league game since 2016. Since then, he's picked up 67 saves in the majors, mostly with the Detroit Tigers. Greene last appeared in the big leagues in 2022 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, but he only threw three innings and allowed two earned runs. In five starts in 2023 for Iowa, he's only allowed six runs (four earned) on 12 hits while walking nine and striking out 20 in 16 1/3 frames. It would be cool to see Greene make a start for the Cubbies down the stretch this year, but he'll most likely operate in a long-relief role out of their bullpen.
