Cubs Option Keegan Thompson
3 years agoThe Chicago Cubs have optioned relief pitcher Keegan Thompson to Triple-A Iowa. Thompson has been a pleasant surprise for the Cubs in his rookie year out of the bullpen, but it looks like the Cubs are looking to get him stretched out. The most likely starter to be dealt by the Cubs is Zach Davies and Thompson appears to be his replacement. Thompson has 2.21 ERA in 40 2/3 innings this season with a 9.52 K/9. Thompson is a name for managers to add to their watch list and he could have some value down the stretch. With Thompson optioned and the Cubs dealing relief pitcher Andrew Chafin on Monday, relief pitchers Kyle Ryan and Cory Abbott have been promoted. Ryan and Abbott have both bounced between Triple-A and the big leagues this season and can be avoided in all formats.
