Cubs Not Expected To Be Buyers At The Trade Deadline
3 months agoChicago Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said that "unless things change dramatically" in the next week, he doesn't anticipate the Cubs adding at the July 30 trade deadline and will instead look at making moves to help in 2025 and beyond. The expectation again next year would be for the Cubs to compete for a postseason spot. Even after beating the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers on Monday, Chicago is 9.5 games back of the division lead in the National League Central and 3.5 games back of the third and final NL wild-card spot with three teams ahead of them. Cody Bellinger (finger) was a popular trade target before the All-Star break but is now recovering from a fractured left middle finger. Aside from him, players like Jameson Taillon, Hector Neris, Mark Leiter Jr., Mike Tauchman and Patrick Wisdom could be on the move this summer.
