Cubs Likely To Target Another Starting Pitcher
1 day agoAccording to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic, the Chicago Cubs are "likely" to target another starting pitcher before spring training. According to Sharma, starting pitching has been the priority for the Cubs throughout the offseason. Sharma noted that the Cubs were in pursuit of left-handed pitcher Jesus Luzardo before he traded to the Philadelphia Phillies. According to Sharma, manager Craig Counsell said that starting pitching is "a place where you can't get caught without depth and quality." Sharma noted that an improvement in the rotation seems "inevitable" before Spring Training. While the Cubs already acquired Matthew Boyd earlier this offseason, another move would add much-needed depth to the rotation. Currently Javier Assad is expected to be the No.5 option with Jordan Wicks as the next man up. Currently, Jack Flaherty is the top option on the free agent market while Luis Castillo of Seattle and Dylan Cease of San Diego have had their names around trade discussions.
