Cubs Expected To Look Internally For Third Baseman
2 mins agoAccording to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Chicago Cubs are expected to look internally for a third baseman. Earlier this offseason, the Cubs shipped their starting third baseman Isaac Paredes, prospect Cam Smith, and right-handed pitcher Hayden Wesneski to acquire outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros. This transaction leaves Vidal Brujan, Gage Workman, and top prospect Matt Shaw as the top options to earn the starting role. Brujan holds a career .189/.261/.270 line across 201 career big league contests. Workman spent the entire 2024 season at the Double-A level and held a .280/.366/.476 line. Shaw is the most intriguing option to fill this void, as he is considered the top prospect in the Cubs system. Last season, Shaw made his Triple-A debut and posted a strong .298/.395/.534 line with eight doubles, seven home runs, and six stolen bases. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progress during spring training, as he would have high value in redraft formats if he wins the starting job.
