Cubs Designate Rob Zastryzny For Assignment
Rob Zastryzny for assignment on Tuesday to make room on the 40-man roster for right-handed reliever Ryan Brasier, who was acquired in a trade from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Zastryzny appeared in nine games (three starts) for the Milwaukee Brewers last year and allowed only one earned run on four hits while walking one and striking out five in 7 2/3 innings pitched. The 32-year-old Canadian southpaw has a career 4.30 ERA (3.72 FIP) and a 1.48 WHIP with a 54:31 K:BB in 67 career innings at the big-league level over six seasons. His 2024 campaign came to a premature end due to left-elbow tendonitis, but he should be ready to go for the start of spring training next week. Zastryzny could attract interest on waivers around the league as relief depth with spring training right around the corner.

Rob Zastryzny Opening Bullpen Game For Brewers
Rob Zastryzny as the opener. Right-hander Bryse Wilson and left-hander Jacob Junis will both be available as bulk relievers. Zastryzny shouldn't be expected to go more than an inning in Chicago on Wednesday, so fantasy manager will want to avoid him as a streamer, even in a good matchup. The 32-year-old veteran Canadian southpaw has appeared in only eight games for the Brew Crew this year, and this will be his third time opening a game. He has yet to allow an earned run in 6 2/3 innings in 2024 with one walk and five strikeouts.

Rob Zastryzny Starting On Sunday, Colin Rea To Follow As Bulk Reliever
Rob Zastryzny will serve as the opener for Sunday's series finale against the visiting Washington Nationals, with right-hander Colin Rea set to serve as the bulk reliever. It will be Zastryzny's second opening assignment for the Brew Crew this year. In his first "start" for Milwaukee on July 1 against the Colorado Rockies, the 32-year-old southpaw produced a scoreless inning. Because he'll only go an inning or two at the most, Zastryzny can be ignored in fantasy. Rea is being protected as a bulk reliever on Sunday after he gave up a season-high seven earned runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his last outing on Tuesday. The 34-year-old veteran went seven shutout innings on July 3 with four strikeouts, so he'll be hoping for a bounce-back outing heading into next week's All-Star break.

Rob Zastryzny To Open For Brewers On Monday, Bryse Wilson To Follow Out Of Bullpen
Rob Zastryzny start Monday's game against the Colorado Rockies instead of Bryse Wilson. Milwaukee has done this quite a bit with Wilson recently, as the right-hander has started just once over his last four appearances. However, he is expected to pitch the bulk of innings, while Zastryzny will only pitch one to two frames. In his last appearance on June 25, Wilson came on in relief and threw six scoreless innings with four strikeouts against the Texas Rangers. Fantasy managers, though, should have lower expectations for him on Monday, considering he'll pitch at one of the most hitter-friendly ballparks at Coors Field.

Rob Zastryzny Signs Minors Deal With Brewers
Rob Zastryzny has signed a minor-league deal with an invitation to big-league spring training on Tuesday. Zastryzny made 21 appearances (one start) for the Pittsburgh Pirates last year and went 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA (4.32 FIP) and 1.79 WHIP with 13 walks and 15 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings pitched. The 31-year-old southpaw also wasn't very effective in the minors for Triple-A Indianapolis. In five major-league seasons with the Pirates, Chicago Cubs, New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels, Zastryzny has a 4.70 ERA (3.86 FIP) and 1.58 WHIP with 30 walks and 49 strikeouts in 59 1/3 innings pitched. He's nowhere near the fantasy radar and is likely to begin the 2024 season as minor-league relief depth for the Brew Crew.
