Craig Kimbrel Won't Return When First Eligible
5 years agoChicago Cubs reliever Craig Kimbrel is expected to join the club on their road trip to Philadelphia next week, but won't be activated on Wednesday when first eligible. The 31-year-old was shelved last week with knee inflammation, and the Cubs are proceeding with caution with their midseason acquisition by not rushing him back to action. Kimbrel will throw a bullpen session early next week and should be activated by the weekend if all goes well. Kimbrel has nine saves in 11 chances for Chicago and holds an inflated 5.68 ERA in 14 appearances after getting roughed up in a couple of outings when first activated in early July. He will return to the ninth inning role once healthy and expect him to rack up saves and strikeouts down the stretch run.
