Could Alex Bowman Be A Sneaky Tournament Play For Atlanta?
3 months agoAlex Bowman of Hendrick Motorsports will start 11th in this week's Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Bowman started in this exact starting position in the March 2022 Cup event in Atlanta, where he went on to place in the 10th position. In five races at AMS since the introduction of the Next-Gen car in 2022, Bowman has two finishes of 14th or better while capturing positive Place Differential three times. In 26 races completed so far this season, Bowman has one win and 12 top-10 finishes. Two of Bowman's top-10 finishes were inside the Top 5 at this year's Daytona 500 and the first race at Talladega, and two other events using the superspeedway rules package, like Atlanta this week. Despite mixed results at both superspeedways this season and at AMS since 2022, Bowman has a low enough salary to be considered for tournament lineups as a sneaky contrarian play. This is especially the case as Bowman is a driver for Hendrick Motorsports, who won three out of the last five Atlanta races.
