Corey Knebel Named Phillies Closer
3 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies manager Joe Girardi has stated that relief pitcher Corey Knebel is the team's closer "as of right now," according to a Tweet from Phillies reporter Alex Coffey. The news isn't particularly surprising. Knebel was signed by the Phillies this offseason after the team struggled to find a consistent ninth inning arm last year. Hector Neris led the team with 12 saves, but he signed with the Houston Astros in November. Knebel, who pitched to a 2.45 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP with the Los Angeles Dodgers last year, is a great closer to target in fantasy drafts once the elite closers are off the board. Jose Alvarado will likely be next in line for closing duties if Knebel gets injured or falters.
