Cooper Rush Wins The Cowboys Backup Job
3 years agoDallas Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush has won the Cowboys backup job. The team released both Garrett Gilbert and Ben DiNucci on Tuesday, leaving Rush as the only quarterback on the roster behind starter Dak Prescott. Prescott is coming off a severe ankle injury and dealt with shoulder issues throughout camp and the preseason, so the Cowboys second-string job could be seen as more crucial than that same position on most other teams. The Cowboys have been talking up Rush's performances in practice, but the 27-year-old has attempted just three passes in his NFL career. While the Cowboys may be planning on bringing a free agent (Cam Newton?) into their QB room, it's looking like it'll be another year where the Cowboys season depends on Prescott's health.
