1 month agoESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Washington Commanders informed two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jonathan Allen on Friday that he is being released, according to sources. Allen will hit the free-agent market a bit early and will immediately become one of the top interior defensive linemen available. This move doesn't come as much of a surprise, especially after the Commanders gave the 30-year-old veteran permission to seek a trade last week. The former 17th overall pick by Washington in 2017 out of Alabama was entering the final year of his deal with a $15.5 million base salary and no more guaranteed money. The move to cut Allen saves the Commanders $16.3 million in 2025 salary cap space. Allen missed nine games with a torn left pectoral muscle last year but played the final two regular-season games and all three playoff games. He finishes his eight-year career in D.C. with 42 sacks in 108 starts.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
