Commanders Hesitant To Name Sam Howell Starting Quarterback
1 year agoWashington Commanders quarterback Sam Howell is expected to begin the 2023 NFL season as the team's starter, but head coach Ron Rivera is being hesitant to make it official. When Rivera was asked if he was ready to name a starting QB, Rivera dodged the question. "I gotta sit down with both (offensive coordinator) Eric (Bieniemy) and (QB coach) Tavita (Pritchard) and really evaluate it and make sure he's doing the things that we need him to do," Rivera said. "I mean, Jacoby (Brissett) did some really good things too, so we feel really comfortable about the quarterback room right now." Again, Howell should be named the starter soon, but it could be a little bit concerning that Rivera isn't fully confident in officially naming him QB1 with just a few weeks to go before the regular season. Both Howell and Brissett are worth rostering in deep superflex and two-QB formats.
