Colton Cowser Continues To Make Case For Opening Day
8 months agoBaltimore Orioles outfield Colton Cowser continued his strong spring by going 1-for-4 with a solo home run versus the Toronto Blue Jays in Tuesday's Grapefruit League contest. Cowser is now hitting a robust .364 with five home runs, 10 RBI, one stolen base and nine runs scored in 37 at-bats. Cowser is one of the Orioles best prospects, but does not have a clear path to everyday playing time at the moment and the club may prefer that he gets everyday at-bats on the farm than be a platoon player in the big leagues. The 24-year-old has a very patient eye at the play and that is a good sign for young players, but he did struggle in his big-league debut in 2023 with a .115 batting average to go along with four RBI in 61 at-bats. If an injury should occur in the outfield, Cowser will be the biggest beneficiary, but without a clear path to playing time, his best value remains in dynasty formats.
