Colten Brewer, Hector Velazquez Round Out Red Sox Bullpen
6 years agoBoston Red Sox manager Alex Cora confirmed on Saturday that relief pitchers Colten Brewer and Hector Velazquez will make the Opening Day roster as members of the Sox's bullpen. The 25-year-old Brewer was acquired from the Padres in November and threw 10 innings this spring, scattering nine hits, allowing four earned runs, while fanning 10 and walking six. Velasquez will stick around as the long-reliever and spot-starter, after starting in four Grapefruit League contests. They'll join Matt Barnes, Ryan Brasier, Heath Hembree, Brian Johnson, Tyler Thornburg, and Brandon Workman to complete the eight-man pen. The team has been very hesitant to name a closer as the season draws near but Barnes' name has been thrown around as the man expected to get first crack.
