Colt Emerson Promoted To High-A
4 months agoThe Seattle Mariners promoted shortstop prospect Colt Emerson from Single-A Modesto to High-A Everett on Monday. Emerson, the club's No. 3 prospect per MLB Pipeline, earned the promotion by hitting .293/.440/.427 with an .867 OPS, two home runs, 25 RBI, six stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 40 games at Modesto. The 19-year-old left-handed hitter was the 22nd overall pick in last year's draft and stands at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds. Emerson isn't expected to be a big power guy, but a low strikeout rate and high walk rate should make him a candidate to continue to hit for a high average as he ascends the Mariners' minor-league system. He doesn't have a ton of speed on the basepaths and could eventually be moved to third base down the road. It would be a bit of a surprise if Emerson reached the big leagues in 2025, but it's not out of the question if he takes a big step forward in the minors early on next season.
