Collin McHugh Hasn't Resumed Throwing
5 years agoBoston Red Sox pitcher Collin McHugh (elbow) still has not resumed throwing but is progressing nicely. The Red Sox are playing it safe with McHugh with the start of the 2020 regular season likely delayed until June or July in a best-case scenario. The veteran right-hander was successful as both a starter and reliever in his six seasons with the Astros. He struggled to a 4.70 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 35 outings (eight starts) last season, but McHugh had a career-low 1.99 ERA and 11.7 K/9 in 58 relief appearances for the 'Stros in 2018. He's likely to see time as both a starter and reliever in 2020 with Boston, and he can be of use as a streamer to those in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if he's making starts for his new club. Given the extra time before the start of the season, McHugh should be ready to go for Opening Day, and his chances of seeing starts went up with Chris Sale (elbow) needing Tommy John surgery.
